Dr McCrumbles art

Dr Joseph McCrumble is not only the world's first celebrity Parasitologist, but he is also an accomplished artist. Here we are privileged to gain, for the first time, a glimpse into his artistic mind. The Cumbernauld Institute of Art was founded by Dr McCrumble and is one of Scotlands premier exhibition centres for post-modernist existential-abstractism.

Tethered

Tethered (2006)

Artists statement
The scientist is truly confined in his (or her) range of dogmatic thoughts. Each apparently new idea is literally derived from, and tethered to, every other, manifestation of earlier congitive outflow. Though the id may sit solidly in the middle, all his (or her) ideas around him (or her) are swimming in a sea of uncertain futures. We are slaves to the scientific mode, tied to our past and unsure of when the bonds will break.

Are you talking about the artist as scientist, or just scientist? Either way, very astute observation, and a lovely visual metaphor. One of my roving reporters (shorty) once looked at your site and suggested that perhaps you use mspaint to do your works of art. I disagreed with him, of course but the question has been gnawing. This pic certainly looks like real paint.

An interesting couple of questions Jagd. The answer to question number 1) is that each painting represents an attempt to reconcile the objective mind of the scientist with the subjective world of the artist. The answer to question number 2) is tha each artwork is a fresh attempt to bring these distinct entities into closer proximity, and is rendered in my mind before being applied to a 2 dimensional canvas on whatever physical metaphor is at hand.

I was at my mothers' the other day and I showed her your site. She very hystericaly jumped up and down (despite her recent histomrectomy) and proclaimed loudly that she would, as an art collector, enjoy very much one of your paintings to own for herself. I assure you she has a credit card and is quite mad.

Would you be interested in an overseas sail?

I can provide an A3 framed, autographed print in full colour, as the originals are unfortunately not for sale (under strict orders of Mrs Dr McC who sees my art as her investment, or something like that). Price negotiable. Which one would your ma like?

She likes them all, but put emphasis that the description be included also. I shall speak further with her...
